“Creative Portland invited Greater Portland artists to submit proposals for the Portland Creative Bus Shelter Initiative. Funded partially by a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Our Town Creative Placemaking grants program, matched by corporate sponsors and project partners Greater Portland METRO, GPCOG, Waterstone Properties, and Designtex. Pamela Moulton, project coordinator, supervised installation of the jury’s chosen designs.”

The circular shapes carved out from the glacier imagery are pulled from data points showing the mortality rate of cod in relationship to the unprecedented high temperatures of ocean waters off the coast of Maine. The arrow shapes reference the unique ocean currents found in the Gulf of Maine. These currents contribute to why this body of water is one of the most rapidly warming in the world. Further, they signify potential paths of human movements necessitated by climate migration.
